what is the largest shed you can build in a backyard before you need a permit in ontario?

Toronto has a fast track which speeds up the process, and with virtually any of the commonly sized storage shed buildings it is recommended to get a permit just to protect yourself. For other areas in Ontario, you’d be best served by emailing the building permit section of the local government…this way you get their answer in writing! Good luck!

    You need to call your city commissioners and find out the size. It
    varies from city to city.

    Where in Ontario are you?in Waterloo the limit is a detached shed 10′x10′ or less anything over that a permit is required so checking with your local planning office to see what limits apply to you would be a good idea.

    You need to contact your city or county building commission and ask. There are codes that have to be followed.

    It`s either 102 or 108 sq ft without a permit and must be 1 meter from the property line. Anything larger requires a permit
