Please HEAR me out before you answer!!!!
Last summer I wanted to get rid of a small 8×10 backyard shed, I had to ask permission from our local county government…after 4 weeks they sent an "offical" out to look at my 1 acre lot and told me NO on our planned 12×14 shed we wanted. (Welcome to "Free" America"
In December I want to build a wall in our basement to close off an area for storage…once again the "owners of America" came out to look at my plan (they REQUIRE THEIR permission first) after paying the $89 JUST to ask for permission they told me NO…they didn’t like the idea. They said it closes off the basement too much …IN MY HOME!!!
I spoke to a county commisioneer on the phone last week…I told him that I pay YOU $390 PER Month in property taxes and I want to do to my property what I wanted to…after a heated exchange he told me that IF I didn’t pay property taxes/RENT you will find out who REALLY owns and controlls that property.

Alter…the REASON for NOT allowing us to place a larger shed was because they passed a law 5 years ago to only allow for smaller sheds.
They said the wall in my basement would make the basement smaller. I have a 25×34 basement…I wanted to make a 8×4 closed off storage ares with 2/4′s…they didn’t like it and said NO. If I did in any way they would fine me dailey until I fixed it back…they WARNED me NOT to do it

as for the basement thing, building codes as for ur safety . check them out.
as for the shed, try two 6×7 lean-to sheds on house (not actually attached).
Housing markets are cyclical and it is a buyers market..Looked at the region you want to buy in California is on sale and you may get as much as 100,000 discount, Phoenix and Las Vegas as well. New York is the most expensive. You may tried some different ways to buy..like rent with option to buy or lease a existing home or condo that a seller can’t sell and test the water — asked for a first refusal..

Sounds to me like you need to move to a new county. Why did they tell you no to the shed? Why did they tell you no to the wall in your basement? See, we don’t have the whole story here. We don’t know if you planned to make that shed an outhouse. We don’t know that you wouldn’t create a dungeon in your basement to lock people up. In most cases their guidelines are for safety of the public, yes I said public.
I hate to tell you this, but it is easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.

The first thing I would do would be to find out why. why can’t you have your new shed and why is the basement wall a bad idea. Is there a way to make this acceptable. Will adding some kind of ventilation or fire proofing help? It is your property and the guy you talked to was totally out of line to talk to you like that. However there may be safety or code issues. They may be trying to protect you and your neighbors or they may just be pompous bureaucrats. Kind of hard to tell from here. If you "went after" them in anger then they won’t be inclined to work with you. Try reason and see what you can work out. Good luck. Like it or not these guys have a say in what you do. Legal recourse might be a last ditch effort but I’m thinking they may have the law on their side.

all i can say-i live in rural middle TN. i don’t have to deal with a planning commission. i’m sure it some sort of community by-=law that thats what they do. if you don’t like their by-laws–then move
