knocked down, its old and rusty and falling apart, what is the best options to replace it is a wood one the best? and who could i ask for quotes for the labor a regular handyman or a builder?any tips on how to keep the cost as low as possible?thanks!
oh ok thanks yes a pre packed one you can put together yourself,i just dont know what kind this old one is damp and rusty are there ones you can assemble yourself?thank you
You have four options really – Have it built for you on-site, buy an already built one and transport it in, get a kit and assemble yourself or build the whole thing yourself. The most expensive is listed first and least last. If you really want to go cheapest then building yourself is the best bet but you may not have or want to invest the time. So go up the scale and choose what compromise will work. If you do have the time and really want to save the money then building it yourself is great. Not only is it fun and the cheapest but it’s just great to have something like that you did yourself.
You can get plans from the internet and don’t need a heap of skill. There are certain steps you need to take to make sure you get it right. There’s a good article on them in the source box. In the end it will depend on whether you want to spend the time on it or not and if not then check out the other options.
Best bet is to shop around and compare prices to get the lowest. If you get it built for you get a number of quotes and have them itemize them so you can compare apples with apples – you can then try and bring them down by trying to beat the others price!

I don’t know how big a shed you want, which makes it difficult. But having one built for you is probably the most EXPENSIVE way to go. Plus, if you make it of wood, then there is regular upkeep involved in keeping it painted and looking nice, making sure the roof doesn’t leak, etc.
At places like Lowe’s and Home Depot they sell sheds up to pretty good sizes, big enough to go in and walk around and store a lot of things. I’m not sure what they’re made of, it’s like a hard plastic or rubber. The advantage is that they’re waterproof and termite-proof, don’t have to be painted or stained, and don’t require paying a carpenter by the hour to make them. The ones I’ve seen were less than $500, and it would almost certainly cost way more than that to build one.
If you’re determined to build one, I would look on Craigslist for a carpenter, get estimates, and never choose one who isnt licensed and bonded.
Good luck.

Of coarse depending what size, it can cost $2500 for a well built wood shed with double doors, shingles, nice solid 3/4 green treated floors that are anchored to the 4×4 posts under ground by code here in Wis. The size here is 12×16 I did for a costumer and this included labor. I had it up in three days. Was built 2009, so the materials may vary.

Hey,
I built an amazing shed in my backyard a few months ago. I went to this site that gave me 1200 shed plans to choose from. You should go there and pick out a plan for yourself.

For the tear down of the old shed just take a chain saw to it and start cutting it out and hauling it off.
For the replacement get the best shed plans that you can find and build it yourself. With the right plans it will only take you a weekend at the most.

Shed construction is quite cheap, but by all standards, try to build it fairly stout, and even if you do, it is still fairly inexpensive.

1. Preparation.
Before you can start building your outdoor shed you need to do some preparations. First, check in your local zoning and building department whether a permit is required for such type of construction. Then choose a place in your backyard where the shed is going to be. Ensure that your shed will not be positioned over important land lines such as water or phone lines.
Finally, pick a design for your shed. You can design it yourself or buy cheap shed plans online. The second option is highly recommended if you are not very experienced, because the plans contain full instructions and drawing and you will be sure you are going to build something functional.
2. Build the foundations.
The most important part of the wooden sheds are their foundations. There are two main types of foundations – skid and concrete. Building a skid foundation is considered simpler and cheaper. It requires some gravel and a lumber lattice which is used to stabilize the shed and ensure no water goes inside.
The concrete foundations are permanent and can’t be moved (well at least not without special equipment) so think twice before building it. It’s however a lot more stable and long living than the skid foundations of course.
3. Build the walls.
If you are building a wooden shed you can make each wall of two pieces of plywood and a lattice between them. This way the walls will be robust enough and will provide a good insulation. You can start building by preparing frames of skids and joists which to form the entire construction.
Alternatively you can build much simpler walls with wide planks, joined with 2 or 3 beams together. This however is not a very good solution because the walls will not isolate well from the outside temperature and sweat.

I see the good and bad points of the shed itself, but putting them together can get complex.
