I have a pretty big yard in the suburbs and was looking for a storage building to put all my junk that clutters my house and my lawnmower and such. Maybe a building the size of a one car garage. Any ideas on where to get cheap ones? I’ve looked at home depot but they’re all sheds. I looked online but it’s all weird website companies that don’t tell you prices.
If you are looking for a cheap affordable storage building, you can’t go past a shed. They are easy to construct, are durable and great for storing extra things.
Basically a storage building is a shed, unless you want it built out of brick, and then you will have to either get a tradesman to build it for you, or build it yourself.
Otherwise there are plenty of good quality storage sheds out there in a range of material from Wood to Vinyl and Metal.
You can also purchase sheds that are the size of a garage or even bigger. They are probably upwards of $1000+, so they are pretty expensive. Just type in ‘outdoor building’ into google and you will see some sites that list large shed with the pricing.
Another option might be to build one yourself, which can be a lot cheaper, and you can customise it to suit your needs. You just have to make sure you have some good shed plans to build from.

Don’t know how much this would cost, but it looks well-planned. Materials in your community will vary from others. Cheaper if you build it yourself, rather than hiring it done.

I can only tell you about where I’ve been. I bought what is called a ConL building for my back yard. It is a metal structure with a 2 x 4 frame and plywood floor. Actually it is more expensive because it is aluminum so that it doesn’t rust. The finish was guaranteed for a good length of time and the only problem I had was that carpenter ants got in it and I had to replace some of the wood but that was my fault. Oh I should add they told me they would tie it down. Since this is hurricane country I expected it over the top but it wasn’t, it went through the wood under the floor. So when we get hit with high winds I will have a floor left and not much else. Then I bought a very small garden shed for storage and put it on a concrete block foundation. I did the foundation myself and sunk it in the ground and had it level. After that it was a nightmare because the instructions were not well done. It took days and days and if you don’t have helf, you will never get all those screws tightened. I was upset when I got done because it didn’t have any type of frame to secure it and it wasn’t water tight at the edges and then I realized that it would rust. That nightmare was about 1/3 the cost for 1/3 the space. My advice is either hire someone to build you the structure of your choice and be prepared to pay to have it done correctly or pick out one of those sheds and go for it. None of them are inexpensive but better to pay for a good frame and whatever you need so that you have what you want. I actually think it is cheaper to have a large one just built out of the right stuff. At least some of the sheds now have plastic floors and that would have stopped those pesky ants or at least made them mad. Good luck. Storage is never cheap but it is so worth it when you have it done. I had a friend that just had a room added to her garage which wasn’t attached. She designed what she wanted and had storage so that she could buy in bulk and store whateve she needed. Her closets in her house were so nice. No wonder.
