Im thinking of building a small workshop from breezeblocks/bricks. It will basically be a posh shed. Will I need planning permission for this?
Also ive heard if the structure was previously made out of wood after 5 years it can be redone using bricks. Is this true? i.e. a wooden shed can be turned into a brick building after 5 years if noone has complained about it.
Any pointers on this would be great, thanks

You can build anything you like. The only time you can not build is when one of your neighbors complains. After so many years that its up, you can always claim that it was there when you bought the place. On the other hand, you can follow all the rules and get rejected or delayed for years before they grant a permit. Large corporations get away with anything by paying off township officials and or use attorneys to sue until they get what they want. Take your pick?

I think you should check your local authority website for their planning permission rules as the rules are different in the UK depending on where you live. Guessing or going by someone else’s experience could be an expensive mistake as you might end up having to knock it down again.

Not sure exactly what the law is in UK but here (IRE) you can build up to 25 sq. m without permission. Check your local authority’s website; should be guidelines there.

yes as long as it is not built over a sewer. i do not know how long it is before you can replace it

Check this out and phone your local duty planner to see if you are in an area such as a conservation area.
You want section E of the 2008 Act.
PS con`t forget about the right kind of foundations for the soil type.
Good luck.
