Sunday 5th of April 2009. New A1 Tornado moves off-shed to shunt onto ECS to haul along the Springwell branch. Captured with a cheap SANYO camera but not too bad quality.
For overseas visitors the build date of this was 2008 so it’s almost brand-new and was, at the time of it’s commissioning, more “modern” than most of the British rail network diesel and electric locomotives. Now surpassed I suppose by the hideous American class 70 “ugly” diesels.

@Anarchemitis True, 2008 was such a good year for A1 builds. We’ll have to hang fire to see how 72010 Hengst turns out, and maybe southern atlantic Beachy Head, the Unknown Warrior Patriot class and the new Sangringham B17 too. Maybe the planned pair of P2 2-8-2s might be worth waiting for too
